This book is the fruit of a longstanding friendship between a travel writer/branding expert and two designers. For years, Rosie Walford had amused herself by flattening packets into her rucksack. Eventually, the Shelf Life collection grew to fill a wide glass cabinet in her hall. As soon as Paula Benson and Paul West saw Rosie's collection, they unearthed their own array of packets, the three teamed up and Shelf Life was born.

Rosie Walford

Once a director of international advertising agencies, Rosie's first working years were spent developing brand strategy for behemoths like Unilever and Mercedes. She studied creative thinking and soon afterwards, found herself leading projects to invent concepts and names that would sell products worldwide.

But, in a dusty shop in Turkey, the discovery of Puke playing cards showed her the light: it was differentness and authenticity that she truly loved. So now she consults worldwide, helping brand-owners and campaigning organisations communicate with originality and a wide-angle perspective. She also combines creative thinking with life coaching, and leads The Big Stretch - week-long holidays for people to make creative, authentic life plans whilst walking vast mountainscapes in Spain. She roams occasionally as a photojournalist, producing travel and biodiversity features for the weekend newspapers.

Based in London and New Zealand, Rosie loves to imagine the number of times Toss has been purposefully reprinted; she longs to see Ars or Tender Nuts on giant billboards.

Paula Benson & Paul West

Paul and Paula are the founders of Form®, an award winning London graphic design consultancy. Their background lies predominantly in the music industry, art directing and designing high profile campaigns for artists as diverse as Everything But The Girl, Scritti Politti, The Faders, Depeche Mode and Ministry Of Sound. In the world of film and TV they've designed for MTV and the BBC and produced DVD packaging for the cult series Monkey. They've designed books for Rankin, The Clash and Led Zeppelin, and event identities for the Design Council, the Media Guardian, Edinburgh TV festival and Re:Creation hosted by Dazed & Confused/Topshop. They also enjoy the challenge of corporate identities, brochure design, moving image and websites (including this one).

For further self-expression, Paul and Paula created UniForm®, a rapidly expanding line of urbanwear, vibrant with imagery drawn from contemporary cultural themes including DJ-ing and snowboarding, which the pair know well.

Their Shelf Life collection has recently been boosted from trips to Japan - a country they find inspiring and which also has become a new source of work.

Shelf Life has been a true labour of love, but the packets themselves have continued to keep Paul and Paula smiling throughout the whole adventure.
